Curriculum at Ide Hill Pre-School
Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born. The care and education offered by Ide Hill Pre-school helps children to continue to do this by providing all the children with interesting activities that are right for their age and stage of development.
Children are introduced into the learning environment by means of play and a curriculum is tailor made for the individual child. The curriculum is based on the revised Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2012. The ways in which the child engages with other people and their environment, playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically, underpin learning and development across all areas and support the child to remain an effective and motivated learner.
There are three Prime Areas of Learning
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication and Language
Physical Development
The prime areas begin to develop quickly in response to relationships and experiences and run through and support learning in all other areas. The prime areas continue to be fundamental throughout the EYFS.
There are Four Specific Areas of Learning
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
The specific areas include essential skills and knowledge. They grow out of the prime areas and provide important contexts for learning through play.
Play helps young children to learn and develop through doing and talking, which research has shown to be the means by which young children think. Ide Hill Pre-school uses the revised EYFS to plan and provide a range of play activities which helps children to make progress in each of the areas of learning and development. In some of these activities children decide how they will use the activity and in others an adult takes the lead in helping the children to take part in the activity. In all activities information from the newly revised EYFS has been used to decide which equipment to provide and how to provide it.
If you would like to join us for a session, please add your name to our parent rota or come in and read a story/bake/craft/sing with the children, you will always be made very welcome.
