Committee news – October 2020

Welcome back and hope you all had a lovely half-term… We wanted to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves as the joint new chairpersons for the pre-school. We are Catherine (Cat) Ridgway and Sarah McGlasson. We have both previously had children attend the pre-school and their siblings are now currently enjoying all it has to offer.

Thank you as always for your continued support especially during this unusual and very tough times. We are very much looking forward to moving onwards and upwards together as a community and hope that we can take some action together to support our wonderful pre-school that have been amazing in recent times. It would be great if you could join our Facebook support group too. Here is a link for any new parents or parents that are interested:

As a charity led pre-school, we rely heavily on support from our families and would really appreciate any help you can give. It won’t be easy this year due to restrictions to raise funds, however we have planned the following and would really appreciate anything you can do:

Thursday 12th November – Socially distanced coffee morning

This will be a great opportunity to meet new parents and talk to Mrs Money about the pre-school.

We will have a number of tables set up in the outdoor learning section and garden of the pre-school. There will be a maximum of six people to a table and delicious tea, coffee and cake will be brought to you.

We hope to see as many of you there as possible (please wrap up!) but just so we can manage it with the COVID restrictions, please email by Monday 8th November to book your place.

Christmas tea towels

Your children will be working hard to produce a lovely pre-school tea towel that you can purchase for yourself and family members. Tea towels will be on sale early December.

Christmas Hampers

We would really appreciate donations to create a set of lovely themed Christmas hampers that we will then do a raffle during the last week of term.

Christmas Hampers

These are usually very popular and themed hampers we will be doing this year include:

  • Movie night hamper
  • Baking hamper
  • Afternoon tea hamper
  • Retro hamper
  • Gin hamper

We will be in touch again late November with a “donation list” for anyone who is happy to contribute.

Christmas Dressing up week – 7th December – 11th December

We will invite all children to dress up in a Christmas themed outfit on the days they attend during this week. They will be participating in lots of Christmas singing and merrily themed activities. We will have collection buckets outside the pre-school during this week and would appreciate any donations you would like to make.

Christmas donation project As a charity pre-school, every year we support other charitable causes. This forms part of the curriculum under “Understanding the World” where we discuss with the children how important it is to help others, particularly during the Christmas period.  We thought it would be a lovely gesture for our village pre-school to donate to a local charity.  We are very proud of the BEM medal (Order of the British Empire) recently received by our parish Nurse Julie Barry. We wanted to honour her achievements by making a donation to a local charity.
We have chosen a local charity based in Edenbridge who help families who struggle over the Christmas period.

We contacted Nurse Julie, she was delighted with this gesture and said now more than ever the Edenbridge food bank requires donations.
Below is a list of items of food that the charity is in short supply off.  We are suggesting food donations valuing no less than £5.00. The cut off date for receiving these donations to pre-school will be Wednesday 25th November.
Suggested Christmas foods
Tinned ham
Tinned potatoes
Tinned vegetables
Tinned fruit
Custard, not fresh
Boxes of biscuits
Crisps in cardboard tubes
Christmas cake
Christmas Crackers
Crackers for cheese
Chocolate tree decorations
Christmas napkins
* No Christmas puddings are needed *

Usual items that are still needed
Toilet rolls
Washing up liquid
Laundry powder
Tinned or dried food, well in date

With your donations please could you get your children to draw a Christmas Card and place in an envelope with a little message inside.

There will be a box outside each of the bubbles from after half term for you to place your food donation in.   Thank you so much.

If you have any questions or would like to be involved or any other fundraising ideas, please let us know. All thoughts/ideas gratefully received!
